Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate my exact age?
Your exact age is the time elapsed since your date of birth. In years: subtract the birth year from the current year, then subtract 1 if you haven't had your birthday yet this calendar year. For months and days, count forward from your last birthday to today. Our calculator shows your precise age down to the day, plus days until your next birthday.
What is the most common birthday?
According to birth record studies, September 9 is statistically the most common birthday in the US, followed by September 19 and 12. This corresponds to births conceived around the holiday season (Christmas and New Year's). The least common birthdays are December 25 (Christmas), January 1 (New Year's), and February 29 (Leap Day).
Why does age calculation differ across cultures?
In most Western countries, you are "0" at birth and turn 1 on your first birthday. In traditional East Asian (Korean and Chinese) age-reckoning, you are "1" at birth and gain a year on the lunar New Year. South Korea legally shifted to the Western system in 2023. Some cultures also use "nominal" age where everyone born in the same year is the same age regardless of birth month.
